Residential Water Mitigation

10/11/2024 (Permalink)

Owning a home comes with its share of advantages but also its fair share of challenges. One critical issue a home owner may face is water damage. Whether it be from rain, plumbing, or appliance, water damage can cause structural harm if not addressed quickly. In a situation like this you may have to contact a professional like SERVPRO®.

Assessment

The first thing we do once we pick up the call is dispatch a technician to the affected site quickly so they can conduct a thorough inspection of the damaged area. We will determine the classification of the water based off its contamination. This determines what cleaning procedures are carried out.

 Water Extraction

Once the assessment is completed we then begin extracting any standing water from the affected areas. Water extraction involves the removal of standing water using specialty pumps and vacuums. This is a critical step that can prevent further water absorption into walls, floors, and furniture.

Drying & Dehumidification

After all the standing water is removed. We will need to get rid of the moisture in the air along with drying any part of the structure that monitors as wet via our moisture meters. In some cases we will have to remove some affected materials such as drywall, floors, and insulation and dispose of them off site if determined to be non salvageable. Once all of this has been carried out we can set up our drying equipment. Our mitigation team will use  air movers and dehumidifiers to dry the area.

Sanitizing & Cleaning

Water damage can leave behind odors, bacteria, and contaminants, especially in cases involving gray or black water. The water mitigation team will sanitize the affected areas to ensure your home is safe and free of potential health hazards.

They may use antimicrobial treatments, air scrubbers, and disinfectants to clean surfaces. Any materials that were irreparably damaged, like carpeting or insulation, may be removed and properly disposed of to avoid contamination.
